Questions worth asking
Clarity at every
step of the way.
How do I find a gemstone?
Use the encyclopedia search to look for an English name, family or recorded traditional name. Read the article’s sources and editorial status as part of your research.
Does a photograph confirm a gemstone’s identity?
A photograph shows appearance. It cannot establish natural origin, treatment status or geographic provenance. Ask about appropriate testing and documentation.
Does every report answer the same questions?
Read the scope and conclusions of the issuing laboratory. An omitted statement does not establish that a particular assessment was performed.
